Mary Donaldson Award of Merit
Eligibility
This award is given annually to a student who is enrolled in a library and information technology program in Canada and has completed at least one semester. Preference will be given to candidates who are residents of Saskatchewan and/or have strong Saskatchewan connections.
Selection Criteria
The award recipient is chosen based on a combination of excellence in academic standing, a letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the program, and a commitment to work in Saskatchewan as explained in a cover letter.
Applications for this award must include:
- A completed Mary Donaldson Award of Merit online application form;
- A cover letter that includes your connection to Saskatchewan and/or your commitment to working in Saskatchewan;
- Official transcripts from your academic institution; and,
- A reference letter from a faculty member of your academic institution.

Distribution of Award Funds
This award is presented as a cheque in the amount of $1,200. In addition to the award, the recipient also receives complimentary registration to that year’s Saskatchewan Libraries Conference and a one-year complimentary individual membership in SLA.
Award History
The Mary Donaldson Memorial Trust was established in 1966 to honour the memory of Mary Donaldson, who was Saskatchewan’s first Provincial Librarian from 1951 until her death in 1966. The Mary Donaldson Award of Merit was subsequently established in 1977, and has since been given out annually.
