SLA Awards & Student Bursaries

SLA is pleased to give out several awards and bursaries each year to reward individuals and organizations who are furthering libraries and literacy in Saskatchewan, and to encourage students pursuing a career in library services.


Maureen Woods Education Bursary

The Maureen Woods Education Bursary was established to promote the continued growth of professional librarianship in Saskatchewan. It is a $5,000 bursary open to all students enrolled in or accepted to an ALA-accredited graduate degree program in library and information science or equivalent at the time of the award.

The application deadline for this bursary is October 31 annually.

Indigenous Student MLIS Education Bursary

The Indigenous Student MLIS Education Bursary was established to promote the continued growth of professional librarianship and to provide financial support to an Indigenous student pursuing studies in the field. The value of this bursary is $5,000.

Mary Donaldson Award of Merit

The Mary Donaldson Award of Merit was established in 1977 to provide a $1,200 bursary to a full-time or part-time Saskatchewan student enrolled in a library and information technician program.

SLA Frances Morrison Award

The SLA Frances Morrison Award is an award of merit for outstanding service to libraries given in the name of one of Saskatchewan’s exceptional librarians. This award is open to individuals, institutions or groups, and is not restricted to professional librarians or SLA members.

Recipients of this award must be nominated. The nomination deadline is February 1 annually.

Honourary Life Member Award

The Honourary Life Member Award recognizes individuals who have had an active role in SLA and who have made a substantial and longstanding contribution to library services in Saskatchewan. The recipient of this award receives a free, life-long membership in SLA.

Recipients of this award must be nominated. The nomination deadline is February 1 annually.
