Shannon Lucky is the successful recipient of the 2009 Saskatchewan Libraries Education Bursary. The annual $5,000 bursary offers funding to a student enrolled or accepted in a Master of Library and Information Science (MLS) program, or equivalent, who will live and work in Saskatchewan for at least two years after graduating.
Shannon is currently pursuing a joint master’s degree in Library and Information Studies and Humanities Computing at the University of Alberta. Originally from Saskatoon, Shannon holds a BA in history from the University of Saskatchewan (2006) and a BFA in photography from Concordia University in Montreal (2009). ‘I am extremely pleased and honoured to be recognized by my home province and the SLA as the recipient of the 2009 Saskatchewan Libraries Education Bursary. I am very excited to have the opportunity to pursue a MLIS at the University of Alberta and greatly look forward to returning to Saskatchewan and working in the library and information field. Beyond the essential financial support this bursary provides, I am particularly honoured to be recognized by a community of information professionals I have great respect for. My interest in libraries is strongly rooted in my interactions with public and university librarians growing up and attending university in Saskatoon. I have had so many excellent interactions and enthusiastic conversations with information professionals. I am humbled and honoured to be joining this profession. I would like to thank the Saskatchewan Library Association, the Multitype Library Board and the Provincial Library for making this award possible and supporting students in attaining their educational goals.’
The Saskatchewan Library Association is very pleased to award this bursary to Shannon and we wish her all the best in the future. This bursary was made possible through the generous donations from the Saskatchewan Provincial Library and Ministry of Education and through the efforts of the Multitype Library Board and the Saskatchewan Library Association. The bursary was established to promote the continued growth of professional librarianship in the province of Saskatchewan.
Bursary information and applications for the bursary are available on the Saskatchewan Library Association website or by calling the office at (306) 780-9413.
