Amber Christensen
President
Amber Christensen graduated from the University of British Columbia’s MLIS program in 2007 and since returning to the prairies has worked as a librarian for the Saskatoon Health Region, Saskatoon Public Library, as the program coordinator for Social Accountability at the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. Currently she is the Branch Head of the Prince of Wales Library with the Regina Public Library.

Robert Thomas
Vice-President
Robert graduated in 2008 from the University of Western Ontario’s Master of Library and Information Science program.  He has been research services librarian at the University of Regina since September 2009.  As co-chair of the Workshop for Instruction in Library Use 2011 he was responsible for bringing this national library conference to Saskatchewan.

Elgin Bunston
Treasurer

Elgin graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Master of Library and Information Science in 2002.  He then spent two years working for the North Dakota State Library in reference, cataloguing and database instruction, followed by a year in reference with the Aurora Public Library.  Elgin has been a Multitype Library Coordinator with the Provincial Library and Literacy Office since 2006 where he’s gained a wealth of experience on boards and committees.  He is currently pursuing continuing education in accounting.

Charlene Sorensen
Director for Education

Charlene Sorensen holds a B.A. Honours in Classics from the University of Saskatchewan and a Library Technician Diploma from SIAST. She left the province in order to complete her MLIS at the University of Western Ontario and then started her career in serials librarianship at CISTI in Ottawa, where she remained for 6 years. She left Ottawa in 2006 and is currently at the University of Saskatchewan Library. Charlene credits her entry into the field of Library Science to her involvement with the Saskatchewan Library Association while working as a library technician.

Colleen Murphy
Director for Membership

Colleen has been part of the Saskatchewan library community for over 25 years, most of these at the University of Regina where she has held various positions: Fine Arts and Humanities Librarian, Head of Collections, Cataloguer, Head of Access Services, and most recently Associate University Librarian for Academic Liaison and User Services.  She has also held several positions with SLA, most recently President and Chair of the Conference Planning Committee.  She is also currently the Chair of the Education Institute (The Partnership).

Erin Fradette
Director for Fundraising
Erin Fradette holds an MLIS from Dalhousie University (2010), an MA in Contemporary Art, Theory, and Criticism from the University of Essex (2007), and a BA in Art History from Mount Allison University (2005). In the fall of 2010 Erin moved from Halifax to Regina to undertake a term position as Library Coordinator at the MacKenzie Art Gallery Library. Currently she is employed by Regina Public Library in the position of Branch Head, Regent Place, and is also serving on the 2011 Saskatchewan Library Week committee.

Gwen Schmidt
Director for Public Libraries

Gwen Schmidt has worked in various capacities at the Saskatoon Public Library for 16 years, serving adults, seniors, and teens. She is currently the Outreach Services Coordinator, working with seniors and people with disabilities in the Library. In the past, Gwen has helped plan three SLA Conferences, has been on the Board as the Director for Fundraising, and has helped with the Frances Morrison Award Committee, among other things. Gwen believes strongly in the capacity of SLA to provide continuing education for library workers in Saskatchewan, and is proud of the work this organization does in library programming for the public.

Cara Bradley
Director for Academic Libraries

Cara Bradley is the Teaching and Learning Librarian at the University of Regina. She is also the Associate Director of the University’s Centre for Teaching and Learning, where she develops programs and resources to support teaching excellence. She worked in special and public libraries prior to assuming her current position. Cara holds a Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Alberta. She also earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in English Literature from the University of Regina. Her research interests are diverse and include academic integrity and plagiarism prevention, evidence-based librarianship, academic library services to non-teaching staff, and information literacy.
